Safari 3.1 for Windows, blazing fast, wow, have to test!

Actually, if you are not using an Apple-labeled computer, you have to break the terms of use to test it! In the license (EA0424 1/28/08) paragraph 2.A you can read:

This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time. (?!)

And this is for a piece of software at least partly aimed at Windows users. How many Windows users have Apple-labeled computers?

The telegram technology itself is a bit older, invented in 1844 by Samuel Morse. In a way this technology is a predecessor to the modern internet.

Email communication is also quite old. It was 35 years ago (1971) since Ray Tomlinson invented it, including the use of the at sign, @, in adresses. Read more about this at GuardianUnlimited. I wonder what technology we will use for messaging a hundred years from now? Will email still be around?

The final destination is Canton, China. Stops will be made in Vigo and Cádiz in Spain, Recife in Brazil, Cape Town in South Africa and Freemantle in Australia.

I noticed today that someone had registered the domain slaktdata at at another top level domain than the original genealogy site slaktdata.org. This is ofcourse not illegal in any way, but when I looked at the site's content it is obvious that is is auto-generated with kewords taken from www.slaktdata.org. Do we really need this kind of garbage on the net?

The original Släktdata site is at www.slaktdata.org

Swedish genealogy blog

I have just started a little blog for my Swedish friends. It is mostly about genealogy (släktforskning in Swedish).

With the help of Genline and other tools I'm now updating my family tree. The genealogy research has really become more fun with the archives just a mouse click away.

Impressive Genline

Finally Genline sees the end of the project to scan all Swedish parish books and make them available as images on-line. Previously they have only been available on micro fiche. The project will be finished during 2005, but the material is already very usable.

Earlier i have been sceptic to this approach. I thought it would be slow, clumsy to use and of too low quality. All my fears have come to shame. The system has very good performance in both quality and response time measures. It is also fairly easy to use.

Segway v. Roomba

Find-as-you-type in Firefox 1.0PR

I find the behaviour of the "find-as-you-type" dialogue a little bit annoying (FF1PR on Windows).

First scenario:

1. When I type "/" + some letters, find dialogue opens ok

2. After a couple of secs the dialogue dissappears, very often just before the moment I tried to click on it :-(

Second scenario:

1. as above

2. Type "/" and + some letters to make a new search and the slash ends up in the search field :-(

Third...

F3 does *not* open the find dialogue again after it has been closed. That means no easy way to highlight all items.

I think this find dialogue needs more polish or maybe even be changed to a more "normal" find dialogue in its own dialogue box.

Ovearall I am very satisfied with FF, have been using it dailysince 0.8.

UI glitch or bug i Firefox 0.9.3

Location usage pattern triggers UI glitch, or is it a feature?

About 8 times out of ten I end up on the "wrong" page after deleting end of url. This is the scenario:

select end of url with mouse (right hand). I do this by moving the mouse to the right and slightly down
delete with keyboard (left hand)
press enter (left hand)

If the mouse (1) is still moving when I press enter (3) I end up on a random page from the url history dropdown. The history dropdown is highlighted and the location bar is showing the truncated url. Should I report this as a bug or is it my usage pattern that is the bug? Maybe it is a question if the url history should appear when I press delete or not.
